The Cliffs of Moher

The one thing that we'd heard about repeatedly from literally all of our friends who had already traveled to Ireland was the Cliffs of Moher. This five mile stretch of cliffs attracts over a million visitors each year, and with good reason! Towering above the Atlantic Ocean at 702 feet at their highest point, the sheer magnitude of these beautiful cliffs will leave you breathless. They get their name from an old fort named Mothar (or Moher) that once stood on the southernmost part of the cliffs.

Look at that string of tiny little people walking the trail!

The Cliffs of Moher, and this cave in particular, were featured in Harry Potter the Half-Blood Prince.

This was my favorite spot on the cliffs! I probably stood here for a good thirty minutes just staring and snapping picture after picture.

We finally got closer to the cave from the Harry Potter movie.

There's a barrier on the first part of the walk along the cliffs, although it really doesn't deter anyone from hopping over it to get to the edge. As you can see once you get past a certain point, there is no barrier at all. People obviously try to get as close to the edge as possible, but I think most use a certain amount of discernment. There was one group of younger men near me at one point that I literally had to get away from because they were being completely stupid. I just knew one of them was going to die trying get the perfect daredevil selfie. It was insane!

There really are no words to accurately describe the beauty of this place, and pictures don't do it justice. It truly is an incredible display of God's handiwork.
