Hadrian's Wall and Our First Taste of Scotland

So I got a little bit ahead of myself with the Edinburgh post and totally forgot about what we did the day before Edinburgh! That's what happens when some of your pictures are on your phone and not on your big camera.

The day before we went to Edinburgh, we drove from Pemberley up toward Scotland stopping at Hadrian's Wall en route. Way back in 122 AD, the Roman emperor Hadrian ordered the construction of a wall to mark the northern edge of the Roman empire on the British Isle. The stone wall was 73 miles long, with Roman forts built on the wall every few miles. A good portion of the wall still stands today, and we stopped at one of the sections that had a fort built on it.

I love this pano of Austin standing on part of the wall. (122 AD - that's just insane!!)

After Hadrian's Wall, we made our way into the southern part of Scotland. We stopped overnight in a town called Moffat and had the best experience. The bed and breakfast we stayed at was so incredibly homey and welcoming. Our hostess was the sweetest lady who served us an incredible Scottish breakfast the following morning. The town itself was adorable, and we had one of the best meals of our entire trip that night for dinner. I try not to post too many food pictures, but this has to be an exception. I can't tell you now what any of these dishes were, but I do know that they were all traditional Scottish meals, and they were all delicious!

That creme brulee? Out of this world!!

Moffat was quite an unexpected little treasure and a wonderful introduction to the beautiful scenery, people, and cuisine of Scotland!!
